Prost, Carmel! Oktoberfest Takes Over Carmel City Center This Friday

Festival season in Midtown keeps going. PorchFest filled the porches, the Arts Festival filled the Arts & Design District, and this Friday, October 2, it's time for polka. Carmel Oktoberfest takes over the plaza at Carmel City Center from 6 to 10 p.m., and like the best Carmel festivals, it's free and open to all ages. Bring the kids, bring the neighbors, and practice your chicken dance.

When and Where

Oktoberfest runs Friday, October 2, 2026, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Carmel City Center, 720 S. Range Line Road. The party fills the plaza level along Veterans Way and Hanover Court, right in the middle of Midtown. There's no ticket to buy and nothing to sign up for. Just show up.

The Music: Der Polkatz

You can't have Oktoberfest without an oompah band, and Carmel's is a big one. Der Polkatz is a high-energy 13-piece band that mixes traditional polka and waltz music with classic hits and international favorites. They take the upper plaza along Veterans Way at 6 p.m., so get there at the start if you want a good spot near the stage. Expect the crowd to be dancing (or at least trying) well before the sun goes down.

What to Eat and Drink

The city promises “festive German food, seasonal beverages, local shopping and live music,” and the food and drinks come from the restaurants right there in City Center. The city's announcement lists six participating spots:

Hanami Sushi & Sake Bar • Lone Pine • Hotel Carmichael • SALT • Maple • The Cake Bake Shop

That's a strong lineup for one plaza. It runs from sushi and sake to steak and wine to one of the most famous slices of cake in Indiana. My plan: grab something from the plaza, then finish with dessert at The Cake Bake Shop. Many City Center shops and restaurants are keeping extended hours for the night, so you can do some early holiday browsing between polkas.

Parking

Parking is free. The easiest option is the Veterans Way Garage, which drops you right at the party. There's also street parking and public parking areas throughout Carmel City Center. If you live close enough, the Monon is a short walk from the plaza, and a fall evening walk in is hard to beat.

Make a Night of It

Oktoberfest is presented by the City of Carmel, Pedcor Companies, and Carmel City Center. It's one of those Carmel nights that feels like the whole town turned out at once. Get there at 6 for Der Polkatz's first set, eat your way around the plaza, and stay until the band plays the last waltz at 10.
