Wings in Midtown Carmel: Tavern Style, Scratch Kitchen, and the One in Between
Published October 16, 2026
Wings are the great equalizer. Eat them in a dining room or standing at a brewery counter, and either way you end up with sauce on your knuckles. After working our way through Midtown's wing spots, they sort pretty neatly into two camps — the classic tavern wing and the scratch-kitchen wing — with one place sitting right in the middle. A quick ground rule: this list sticks to the walkable heart of Midtown and only covers wings we've actually eaten. We know there are great wings elsewhere in Carmel, and we may not have hit every one of them yet, but these are the ones you can walk to.
Tavern Style
This is the wing most of us grew up on: fried, sauced, served with celery and a cup of dressing, and best eaten with a game on.
Muldoon's — a neighborhood pub since 1981, serving wings by the pound in a from-scratch buffalo sauce. The blue cheese dressing is made in-house, and it's thick and chunky.
BuffaLouie's — 43 W. Main. The Carmel location of the Bloomington wing shop that's been at The Gables since 1987. Wings are spun to order in a long list of sauces and dry rubs, with Sweet Q as the house signature, and order sizes run from a five-wing Snack up to a hundred-wing Super Bucket — handy when you're feeding a crowd.
Woody's Library Restaurant — seven wings with celery and your choice of ranch or blue cheese. A straightforward pub wing served in a not-so-straightforward room: Carmel's 1913 Carnegie library.
The Goat — boneless, traditional, or bone-in breaded jumbo, with buffalo and mango habanero leading the sauce list. Mondays, wings come down a couple bucks, and you can watch a game through the open bar windows over the Monon.
Scratch Kitchen
These come out of kitchens that build the whole menu from scratch, and the wings get the same treatment — less about a long sauce list, more about technique and flavor.
The Den by FoxGardin — the scratch kitchen tucked inside Sun King Carmel at 351 Monon Blvd. Wings come in buffalo, BBQ, or spicy BBQ, with blue cheese or ranch on the side. Carry them out to the elevated deck overlooking Midtown Plaza.
Garden Table — best known for its bright room, cold-pressed juices, and from-scratch menu, which makes wings a bit of a surprise. On our last visit they were tossed in a mango habanero sauce.
101 Craft Kitchen — 1200 S. Rangeline. These are smoked and grilled rather than fried, tossed in a honey adobo sauce, and served with celery and a house blue cheese. They're also gluten-free.
The One in Between
Fork + Ale House — scratch technique with a tavern finish. The wings are smoked then fried, and the sauce list is the longest in Midtown: buffalo, house buffalo, hot, parmesan garlic, Jim Beam honey BBQ, maple bacon, mango habanero, BBQ, or dry rub. If you can't decide which camp you're in, start here.
A Couple of Personal Notes
This isn't a ranking — all eight are worth a stop. But if you're a blue cheese person, Muldoon's house-made dressing is a great call, and 101 Craft Kitchen's house blue cheese is right there with it. Honestly, there are no bad blue cheeses on this list.
And I'm usually a buffalo guy. But the scratch-kitchen flavors — 101's honey adobo, Garden Table's mango habanero — are a welcome break from even a really good buffalo wing.
Another thing to consider is pairing the right drink. I'm an IPA person but I'm on my wife's side of the fence sometimes when it comes to wings. A good Pilsner or Lager or something a little lighter, crisper and ice cold seems to hit the spot for me especially if there is some serious heat involved. What's your go to pairing?
If we missed a wing spot in Midtown, or you've got a sauce order you'll defend, send it our way.
