If you're looking for the best way to celebrate Independence Day in the Indianapolis area, you don't need to look any further than your own backyard. CarmelFest 2026 takes over Carmel Civic Square and Carter Green on July 3 and 4, noon to 10 p.m. both days, delivering two days of live music, incredible food, family fun, a legendary parade, and one of Indiana's most spectacular fireworks shows. And the best part? It's completely free to attend.
A Tradition 38 Years in the Making
CarmelFest isn't just a party — it's a community institution. Founded and organized by the Rotary Club of Carmel, the festival has been bringing Hamilton County families together every Fourth of July for 38 years. What started as a neighborhood celebration has grown into Indiana's largest Independence Day festival, drawing tens of thousands of visitors from across the state. The City of Carmel, community sponsors, and an army of dedicated volunteers make sure the gates — and the parking — stay free for everyone.
The Parade: Second Biggest in Indiana
The Allied Solutions CarmelFest Parade is a don't-miss tradition. With an estimated 30,000 spectators lining the route, it ranks as the second-largest annual parade in Indiana, trailing only the AES 500 Festival Parade in downtown Indianapolis. The parade travels west on Carmel Drive, north on Rangeline Road, and east on Main Street — plenty of great spots to stake out a claim with lawn chairs and flags. Live stream coverage kicks off at 10:00 a.m. for those who want to catch the action from home.
Live Music All Weekend
CarmelFest features live performances across two stages — the Gazebo Stage and the Carter Green Stage — running throughout both days. The eclectic lineup spans blues, soul, rock, folk, Americana, and yacht rock. Highlights include local-to-Carmel favorites Phone Club headlining the festivities, King Bee & The Stingers (blues, rock, and soul), the Steel Petals (Indy-based folk/indie/Americana harmonies), and the Woomblies Rock Orchestra, a high-energy ensemble blending classic rock, Motown, and soul with strings and horns.
The grand finale belongs to the Carmel Symphony Orchestra, performing July 4 from 8:00 to 9:40 p.m. on the Gazebo Stage with an evening of patriotic favorites — the perfect lead-in to the fireworks. Tune in to Carmel High School's WHJE 91.3 FM during the show; the fireworks are synchronized to the broadcast, and the Carmel Symphony will have you feeling all the feels before the first burst lights up the sky.
Food, Drinks & the Marketplace
Hungry? Civic Square fills up with food vendors serving festival favorites, and the beer and wine garden is a great place to sample local and regional brews while soaking up the music and atmosphere. Browse the marketplace for local artists and vendors between sets, or just park yourself near a stage with a cold drink and enjoy the show.
KidsZone: A World of Fun for Little Ones
The KidsZone is an event all its own. Kids can bounce on mechanical rides, conquer obstacle courses, try bungee jumping, and check out a brand-new mini race track. The beloved pet farm is back too, giving little ones a chance to meet and feed animals up close. Ride tickets can be pre-purchased online to skip the lines and make the most of your time.
Fireworks to Close It All Out
At 9:45 p.m. on July 4, the sky over Carmel lights up with a professionally choreographed fireworks show synchronized to music on WHJE 91.3 FM. Bring an FM radio or a Bluetooth speaker for the full synchronized experience — streaming audio runs on a delay and won't match the show. Find a spot on Carter Green, spread out a blanket, and enjoy the finale.
